I bet that title has got you smiling! Yes, this post is dedicated to that place that we all need to visit whether home or away. The loo/toilet/bathroom/restroom may seem an unlikely spot to comment on in positive terms, but when I visited Chicago five years ago somebody told me to visit the John Hancock Observatory, 94 floors above the city. “And don’t miss the ladies room… it’s got the best view in the building!” Sorry guys!
Of course I felt duty bound to go check it out… The observatory, now known as 360 Chicago, offers a great panorama of Chicago at any time of day. We chose to go up at sundown, purchased a ticket and enjoyed the included cocktail at the top. And the view, yep, pretty spectacular:
I thought no more of this phenomena of loos with views until my first trip to Norway a couple of years later. And sure enough as I was reading through some blog posts came the unexpected mention of another bathroom view, this time at the Stegastein Viewpoint overlooking the Aurlandsfjord near Flåm in the Sognefjord region. Now a loo view has stiff competition in this part of the world as anyone who’s read my posts about Norway will attest to. This country is stunning at every turn. I mean seriously stunning. Alas my male readers, once again it was the ladies room which claimed to have the better view:
But fear not, the view from just outside wasn’t exactly lacking:
Again I thought nothing more of loo views until a couple of months ago when I spent some time in the charming city of Bratislava. After making my way to the top of the highest vantage point, the UFO Tower, I decided to have a quick comfort break before moving on. And you’ve guessed it, the view was pretty cool:
So you just never know where the views of your destination will greet you. I won’t exactly be seeking out bathroom views on my future trips, but hey, if they come to me then who’s complaining!!
