I had heard other travelling friends describe the breathtaking spectacle of standing at Uluru at sunset watching the the rock progress through the spectrum of reds, from fire, through terracotta until night fall when the stars paint sparkling dots across the sky. When I finally made my way to Australia I couldn’t wait to experience nature’s great show with the knowledge that mankind can build, shape and control dazzling spectacles, but nothing quite matches Mother Nature when she blends day into night and back to day. As we stood and observed Uluru flicker and dull as it absorbed the dance of the setting sun, a gentle hush descended upon all whom had gathered to share this moment. The shadows grew longer as dusk cloaked Uluru in darkness, eventually crowning the rock with a luster of stars. I would arise early to view the sun rising over Uluru, but that’s for another post 😉
